Before Ferropolis turned into this unique setting we know and love as our favourite adventure playground – with its five gigantic excavators, its arena and the picturesque Forest at Gremmin Lake –, disco balls weren’t hanging from Big Wheel, Mosquito and co. Instead of visitors from all corners of the globe, the terrain in the midst of Saxony-Anhalt was used as a huge coal mining pit until 1991.

So, it basically was the exact opposite of the colourful spectacle of Melt Festival. Though, rather than abandoning it and letting the huge iron dinosaurs rot, an impressive backdrop was created which merges industrial history, culture and nature – a perfect match for Melt.
